334-333-3333Members of the Cullman County law enforcement community and other well-wishers gathered on Saturday to pray for Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Clark and his K-9 companion Figo.
The two were injured in a single-car accident last Tuesday on Alabama Highway 69 near Bremen.
Clark suffered extensive injuries and remained in critical condition at Huntsville Hospital on Saturday. Investigating officers have attributed the crash to poor weather conditions after dispatch lost control with Clark during heavy rain.
The accident occurred between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. and Clark’s Chevrolet Tahoe patrol car was found by responders in a ravine within an hour of the crash.
Figo is said to be in stable condition at a veterinary facility at Auburn University.
Chaplain for the sheriff’s office, Michael Glover, organized Saturday’s event and led attendees in prayer. The service at Depot Park in Cullman drew a small crowd.
Earlier in the week, Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry thanked a number of first responders for the love and support they showed Clark.
These included local volunteer fire departments, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Cullman EMS, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Morgan County Sheriff‘s Office, and Huntsville Police Department.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, around 22 percent of the vehicular accidents that occur every year in the United States each year are weather-related.
Thousands are injured or killed because of rain, impaired visibility, high winds, and other issues. However, more accidents occur when the roads are wet than in other types of bad weather.
