It is a devastating truth that service members, their families, and civilian employees living at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina from 1953-1987 were drinking and bathing in water with toxic, cancer-causing chemicals.
For generations, people at Camp Lejeune were exposed daily to concentrations of toxicity between 240 and 3,400 times higher than safety standards. This contamination was identified by the United States Marine Corps in 1982, yet the wells were not shut down until February of 1985. Their inaction resulted in continued serious health threats to everyone exposed.
The chemicals found in the water sources used for drinking, bathing, cleaning, and cooking included:
All are known carcinogens and all exceeded the maximum allowable contamination levels by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Many veterans, their families, and civilians exposed to Camp Lejeune’s contaminated water have developed numerous medical conditions as a result.
Injuries and conditions include:
The recently introduced Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 has strong support in the House and Senate. When signed into law, it will allow our attorneys to seek justice for victims of the Camp Lejeune water contamination crisis through benefits for medical expenses incurred. This act is the government’s way of accepting responsibility for the mishandling of dangerous chemicals that harmed so many.
Our veterans and civilian citizens alike deserve to be protected. Yet countless veterans, their families, and neighbors are dealing with the aftermath of a contamination that could have been prevented.
Our lawyers care about every innocent victim of this water contamination crisis. If you or someone you love lived at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between 1953-1987 and believes they were affected by the water contamination, we want to help get justice.
